Reference projects list

BSHC offers Laboratory model tests as well as Numerical model simulations to provide research, engineering and consulting services in support of Port & Coastal Engineering, Coastal Zone Management, and Environment Protection.

Lay-out planning of Harbour & Coastal Engineering Structures

Laboratory model tests of lay-out of port and coastal engineering structures are carried out in a 3-D wave basin, with simulation of regular and irregular waves and littoral currents.

Tests include measuring of:

  • waves / water level parameters
  • diffraction
  • over-toping
  • run-up / set-up
  • long waves / seiches

Coastal hydraulics and environment protection. Waves and wave transformation. Radiation stresses. Currents.

Laboratory model tests on waves and wave transformation in shallow water. Study on wave induced littorall currents. Tests are carried out in a 3-D wave basin, with simulation of regular and irregular waves.

Tests include measuring of:

  • waves / water level parameters
  • current velocity
  • run-up / set-up
  • long waves / seiches

Numerical model simulations include Application of SWAN numerical modelling system (developed by Delft Technical University, the Netherlands).

Numerical modelling include simulation of:

  • Wind wave parameters (spectral properties) in deep and shallow water
  • Radiation stresses

Sediment processes. Beach & Seabed Dynamics (sediment transport, erosion, accumulation).

Laboratory model tests of coastal morphology changes (sediment transport, erosion / accumulation, shoreline evolution) are carried out in a 3-D wave basin, with simulation of regular and irregular waves and littoral currents.

Tests include measuring of:

  • waves, and wave induced currents
  • shoreline position
  • sediment transport rates
  • morphology changes

Additional tests on local scours are carried out in a 2-D wave flume, with simulation of regular and irregular waves and current.

Wave loads on Harbour & Coastal Engineering Structures

Laboratory model tests of wave loading on port and coastal engineering structures are carried out in a 2-D wave flume, with simulation of regular and irregular waves.

Tests include measuring of:

  • wave parameters (breaking, over-toping, reflection, transmission)
  • wave pressure (incl. impact pressure)
  • wave forces (force gauges, 6-component dynamometer)

Spreading of pollutants in coastal waters. Water quality / Seabed sediment quality.

Laboratory model tests of spreading of pollutants in coastal watersare carried out in a 3-D wave basin, with simulation of regular and irregular waves and currents.

Tests include measuring of:

  • waves, and wave induced currents
  • water salinity / conductivity
  • pollutant concentration

Numerical model simulations include application of in-house advection - dispersion numerical models.

Numerical modelling include simulation of:

  • Spreading of suspended sediments
  • Spreading of soluble substances
