History

The construction 1973 - 1976 of the experimental facilities of the Centre was technically and financially supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The conceptual design of the Centre was developed by brain storming of leading worldwide recognized experts in the field of marine research. That made BSHC the most advanced and powerful hydrodynamic facility in Eastern Europe of that time.
The experimental laboratory complex of the Centre was officially launched on 10-th October 1976.
The Centre was legally registered as Bulgarian Ship Hydrodynamics Centre in 1977.
With the advancement of its research potentials and keeping track of the world trends in marine science and industry, BSHC has extended its scope continuously exploring new fields: shipping, offshore industry, coastal hydraulics, aerodynamics, environment protection.
At present BSHC is a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
